Founded over 100 years ago in Louisville, Kentucky, American Air Filter International (AAF) has established itself as a pioneering leader in the dust collection and air filtration industry. AAF has consistently set industry standards throughout its extensive history with its innovative technologies and products. Since its inception, the company has been dedicated to ensuring clean air in various environments, particularly in industrial applications.

AAF’s Industrial Filtration Division, a key component of the company, manufactures many of its products in the USA, with a significant portion produced in Pennsylvania. This domestic production is a testament to AAF’s commitment to quality and precision in meeting the evolving needs of its customers.

In the 1940s, AAF began focusing on the industrial dust collection space, cementing its position in the market with its early designs for filtration systems dating back as far as the late 1920s. The company’s long-standing expertise has made it a trusted partner for industries requiring reliable and efficient dust collection solutions. Today, AAF remains at the forefront of technological advancements, delivering high-performance products that support clean, safe, and efficient work environments.

Wet Collector Technology

RotoClone wet collectors are specialized systems designed to handle airborne particulates that contain moisture or oily substances. Nick Welter, Sales Director, Industrial Filtration, North America at AAF, explains, “The RotoClone line of wet collectors are designed to provide superior performance in high humidity environments and when handling sticky dust. Unlike traditional dry filters that rely on media to trap particles, wet collectors use water or mist to ‘wash’ the particles out of the air stream.” He adds, “The mist not only captures dust and debris but also ensures that the system doesn’t clog, making it suitable for sticky, oily, or humid environments. This AAF line of products is unique.”

is the only company in North America that offers this kind of product. That makes the RotoClone a standalone choice when dust collection and filtration are critical. The company manufactures the systems and works closely with end users and engineering firms to ensure each system is optimized for specific applications.

“This consultative approach allows AAF to recommend solutions that deliver both high filtration efficiency and low operating costs,” Welter adds, “ensuring that all of our customers get the right product, set up correctly, and designed for success.”

RotoClone W Wet Collector

The W model is one of the most advanced systems in this category. It operates similarly to a fan but incorporates a mist of water that filters out particulates from the air. “The RotoClone W is especially adept at handling air streams filled with moisture, a difficult task for conventional dry filters,” Welter notes. “It comes in a compact size relative to its ability to filter large volumes of air.”

The AAF RotoClone W is an efficient solution for industries with heavy air pollution but limited space. Additionally, it excels in environments with high humidity. “Traditional filters tend to fail when exposed to moisture- and cause premature filter failure. However, the RotoClone W easily handles these conditions, effectively removing particles from the air.”

The N RotoClone

The N Rotoclone is primarily used in metal working applications where explosive dusts such as aluminum, titanium, or magnesium is the primary contaminant.  “The N Rotoclone can be configured with a drag chain conveyor which will automatically remove accumulated particles from the bottom of the unit and drop them into a receptacle chosen by the end user,” says Welter. ” This configuration also can include a controller which manages the water level of the unit, calling for water only when needed reducing water consumption while running.”

The N rotoclone is also available with a pyramid hopper and valve bottom outlet.  This configuration is proven to be useful in mining applications where heavy dust loads are common and environments in which the dust is collected varies greatly causing maintenance nightmares in dry media style collectors.

RotoClone LVN and LVN Ultra

Metallic dust generated during manufacturing processes can pose significant risks. In particular, dust created from light metals like titanium, aluminum, and magnesium is not only hazardous due to its fine particles but also potentially explosive when exposed to certain conditions. “Without the proper containment and filtration systems in place,” Welter notes, “these airborne particulates can lead to dangerous environments within industrial facilities.”

The RotoClone LVN and Rotoclone LVN Ultra are designed with simple effective inherently safe filtration in mind.  These cost effective models deliver significant airflow at higher suction power ensuring the dust is picked up at the source of creation.  The units are built of heavy gauged stainless steel on all wetted surfaces ensuring longevity of use.  The intention is a packaged design to ensure simplicity during installation and maintenance allowing the end user to focus on the manufacturing process.
